This JUST happened to me today, literally. Print the regulations out and bring them, along with your statements or a list of charges with the date they occurred and you can request months worth of charges back(if you were never opted in and they charged the fees inappropriately) They may only charge you a fee for reoccurring scheduled charges, like when bills are set to auto-draw out of your account….any other transaction they may not assess a fee for. If you are NOT part of that program, and the bank allows a NON-“auto pay” or ATM transaction to process and it causes a negative balance the bank CANNOT charge you a fee. OD protection is a scam, it is you giving them permission to charge you and overdraft your account as often as they can. If you don’t recall them discussing this at account creation you should investigate how you became “opted in”. You can do something about the overdraft fees.įirst, you want to NOT be a part of the “Overdraft protection” program, call and opt out if you agreed to the service in the past. I think this new processing method happened around last March with COVID. Grocery stores have learned to charge the customer when they place the order, so they don't get stuck picking a huge order that they end up having to put back due to a declined card. Sometimes your transaction history will show $0.01 pending from the gas station for a couple days, the pending charge will disappear and then the real amount will post later on randomly. It is kind of like purchasing gas at the pump. I don't know if I did a great job explaining that. They may actually do this even if the amount doesn't change to have a consistent customer experience for everyone. It would take the grocery store a couple days to have the correct amount post which would have a similar time frame to your issue (especially if you buy groceries on Fridays). After the charge falls off the grocery store would charge you the correct amount. If that is the case the pending charge would drop off due to the amount change. Then they will adjust for what is actually picked (items may be out of stock). Sometimes grocery pickup systems will charge you when the purchase is made/submitted online to make sure you have funds in your account before picking the items. Couple things I can think of that would be outside a technical issue with One. Even within the same company different districts will use different banks, merchant services and systems. Merchant services can be really weird about posting dates (especially with grocery pick-up services).
